Currently it's 33 degrees outside at 11:30am.  That's up from a low of 22 today under blue skies and a light breeze.  The forecast is trending generally warmer with light winds and excellent fishing weather.  The lake warmed from it's low of 36.5 degrees up to 38.5 before losing a degree during this last cold period.  We had seen morning temps in the teens the last few days.  It looks like those are behind us now.  Lake clarity is about 6' and the water is actually quite pretty as it is in its winter green coloration.

Roadways leading into the Almanor basin are generally clear.  There is ongoing construction in the highway 70 canyon as well as highway 89.  My understanding is that if you get an early start much of that can be avoided.

The Almanor Fishing Association is into its membership drive for 2022.  Please consider supporting this organization with a donation.  You can visit them at www.almanorfishingassociation.org.

Fishing since my last report has been very good to excellent.  We are targeting fish near the dam with a variety of methods depending on weather.  Ice has not been a problem lately as we have had winds keeping the water moving.  A couple of days launching in below 20 degree weather with stiff breeze has brought freezing spray onto the boat as we approach the fishing grounds.  Those launching at Canyon Dam which remains clear and open to the public should not be affected.  most boats are fishing straight from the dock.  Speedy shiners, Rapalas, flashers and worms and basically anything in the tackle box is producing quality rainbows throughout the day.  The fish have been moving up and being active in water above 15'.  Many anglers have begun to long line baits and downriggers are not necessary this time of year.  I've been impressed to see more smaller boats than I'm used to.  Several 12' gregor class boats were spotted trolling around the dam.  This time of year is excellent fishing, free from crowds and the wakes of recreational traffic.

Looking forward to seeing you on the water.
